Adult Education Program: Part Time Early Childhood Educator, Steel Valley Family Center

Position Summary:

 

The Early Childhood Education Specialist is accountable for planning, coordinating and managing activities to provide a conducive environment for a child’s total development and healthy well-being of the children and their families with the support of the Educational advisor and program coordinator.  An emphasis is to serve families with children aged birth to five years that are enrolled in the adult education program and not currently receiving other services. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Coordinate the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of the children in the program appropriate to the developmental level of the child.

2.     Provide age-appropriate child development activities and sharing activities that encourage questioning, probing, exploring and problem-solving skills.

3.     Provide a variety of sensory experiences that stimulate children to explore and express their creative abilities.

4.     Help children acquire and use language as a means of communicating their thoughts, feelings, and self-esteem to others.

5.     Help children develop a sense of independence, self-respect, respect to others, and overall general well-being through engaging activities.

6.     Coordinate daily activities of the children and classroom to ensure a healthy, clean and safe environment.

7.     Administer appropriate assessment tools of childhood development.

8.     Coordinate with the Adult Education instructors and education advisor to develop and incorporate common family goals; assist families in completing their goal plans.

9.     Provide regular communication with families via phone, text and email to document student barriers to attendance and learning progress.

10.  Keep current on collection of all data and reports such as attendance, goals, lessons, etc. 

11.  Welcome and interact with all families and participate in student orientation.  Provide positive family communications and age appropriate activities.

12.  Nurture and support families and peers and work with families in becoming self-sufficient.

13.  Facilitate, participate in and coordinate weekly parent support and parent/child interaction groups.

14.  Facilitate, participate and coordinate evening groups and encourage families to participate in groups and activities as needed.

15.  Distribute and check in with families on weekly assignments and make up work for families that can’t attend to ensure that work is being completed weekly

16.  Promote parent-child attachment among family members.

17.  Participate in reciprocal relationships based on respect.

18.  Develop and maintain relationships with parents and service providers to document student attendance and progress as needed.

19.  Provide training/guidance in areas of expertise.

20.  Serve as an equal member of the Adult Education team.

21.  Pursue and/or conduct training and information which would serve families and team.

22.  Assist in childcare when needed.

Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Site Director or program Coordinator.

  1.  High School Diploma Required - Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, family relations, social work, guidance counseling and one (1) year experience working with infants/toddlers and families preferred

2.     The ability to work with parents and children in a home environment.  Community services experience preferred.

3.     Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.

4.     Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills required.

5.     Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.

6.     Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and work as part of a team.

7.     Ability to think creatively, plan and organize complex work projects.

8.     Self-motivated; demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through with completion of tasks.

9.     Ability to travel.                          

10.  Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy

Position Schedule: Monday – Friday and some weekends or evenings depending on program events

Salary:  $23 Per Hour

Benefits:  PT position
