Job Title: Early Head Start Health Supervisor

Position Summary: 

 

The Early Head Start Health Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and implementing comprehensive health services for children and families enrolled in the Early Head Start (EHS) program. This position ensures that the health, dental, nutrition, and safety needs of children are met in accordance with federal Head Start Performance Standards, state regulations, and best practices. The Health Specialist works closely with families, staff, and community partners to promote healthy development and well-being in children from birth to age three.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:       

Health Services Coordination:

  • Oversee health, dental, and nutritional services for Early Head Start children, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local health requirements.
  • Collaborate with families to ensure that children receive necessary health screenings, immunizations, and follow-up care.
  • Develop individualized health plans for children with special health needs and monitor the implementation of these plans.

 

Health Education and Promotion:

  • Provide health education to families, staff, and children, focusing on preventive care, nutrition, dental hygiene, and mental health.
  • Work with EHS staff to assist families in identifying medical homes and accessing health services.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions on child health and safety topics.

 

Health Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate health records for all enrolled children, tracking health outcomes and interventions.
  • Complete and submit required health reports to the Early Head Start Program Manager, federal agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor the health and safety of program facilities.

 

Collaboration and Community Partnerships:

  • Work with local health providers and community agencies to ensure comprehensive care for enrolled children and families.
  • Act as a liaison between the Early Head Start program and health professionals, including physicians, dentists, and nutritionists.
  • Attend interagency meetings and conferences to stay informed about current health trends and resources.

 

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure that health services meet or exceed the Head Start Performance Standards and adhere to state and local health regulations.
  • Develop and update policies and procedures related to child health, safety, and nutrition.
  • Assist with program audits and reviews related to health services.

 

Professional Development:

  • Stay current on health-related issues impacting early childhood development, including emerging best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including attending training and certification programs relevant to health services in early childhood.

·        Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, health education, or a related field.

·        Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or relevant health professional certification is preferred.

·        At least two years of experience in health services, public health, or a related field, preferably in an early childhood or family-centered environment.

·        Knowledge of Early Head Start Performance Standards and best practices for child health and safety.

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse families, staff, and community partners.

·        Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.

 

Additional Requirements:   

1.      Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

2.      School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

3.  Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for community outreach activities.

4.  Ability to travel to multiple program sites and community locations as needed.
